Due to popular demand, we are having a futurity! It’s an Australian Shepherd only futurity. Futurities used to be a common occurrence in our breed, however the last futurity anyone can recall was a LONG time ago. Turns out after some research we got confirmation that the last futurity held was 2004! That will make our futurity the revival of a 20 year lapsed tradition.
The purpose of a futurity is to challenge handlers, show off the raw talent of young dogs and to provide evidence that our dogs can be trained at a young age.
How does it work? If you have a litter or a pup that is born in the qualifying year, then you nominate them and enter them in the futurity. You spend the next two-ish years training and preparing. And then you travel to Texas and compete in the futurity competition.
We are doing something unique this time. We are adding a Novice class. This is for novice handlers only. Don’t try to game the system! This class is to encourage new trainers to enjoy the fun and competition of a futurity. Novice handlers will have access to free training support! Once the entries close we will set up monthly virtual meetings to discuss training strategies, share videos and generally help each other out! So there is no reason to be nervous!

2024 Building Legacies Australian Shepherd Ranch Dog Futurity
Location: Somewhere in Texas! Dates: Not set in stone yet, but some time between April 1-May 31, 2024
Eligibility:Australian Shepherds born between March 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022.
Courses: There will be 3 runs on sheep/ goats and 3 runs on cattle over the weekend. Scores will be cumulative. Courses will be mostly ranch work – loading trailers, penning, outrun, pasture work, driving, etc. More details to come.
Fees: If paid by April 1, 2022: $250
Payment plan: $50 a month starting April 1, 2022- September 1, 2022: $300 total
Any entries made after September 1, 2022: $350
Awards: TBD cool stuff and some money! Breed specific and overall winners! For more information:
